DHAKA: Bangladesh Australia Association of Western Australia (BAAWA) honoured noted Nazrul Sangeet singer Firoza Begum with a lifetime achievement award.
The artiste was presented the award at Curtin Theatre of the John Curtin College of Arts in Fremantle in Perth on June 23.
The award ceremony included presentation of the bibliography of Firoza Begum, discussion on her singing experience and play some of her songs, said BAAWA General Secretary Nazmus Sadat.
In the second half of the programme, contemporary Bangladeshi music was presented by Hamin Ahmed and Shafin Ahmed two sons of Firoza Begum, he added.
Born in 1930s, Firoza Begum, has gained popularity singing Nazrul Sangeet in the subcontinent in the last few decades and become an icon of the music genre.
The BAAWA is a non-profit organization. It serves Bangladeshi Australian living here, nurtures the cultural identity of its members and integrates them with the wider Australian community in the spirit of multiculturalism.
