RANGPUR: Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina Thursday said the incumbent government has made the country self-reliant in food after assuming power.
The premier, also ruling Awami League president, came up with the remarks while inaugurating Teesta Road Bridge in the noon.
She said, “I had laid the foundation-stone of the bridge and started the construction work after assuming power in 1996. But, the then BNP-Jamaat alliance government halted the work.”
Sheikh Hasina said the Al-led grand alliance government finished the construction work of Teesta Road Bridge. “The ruling government also turned Rangpur into City Corporation. All the development works will be completed in phases,” he said.
Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad, Home Minister Mohiuddin Khan Alamgir, Communications Minister Obaidul Quader, Jute and Textile Minister Abdul Latif Siddique and State Minister for Primary and Mass Education M Motahar Hossain were among others present.
