DHAKA: The High Court Tuesday imposed ban on the ongoing movements of teachers and students demanding resignation of VC and pro-VC of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET).
An HC bench comprising Justice Naima Haider and Justice Muhammad Khurshid Alam Sarkar passed the order considering public interest.
The court also asked the government to explain within four weeks why security of the university should not be ensured.
Education secretary, Inspector General of Police, DMP commissioner, VC, pro-VC, president and secretary of teachers’ association and BUET were made respondent to the rule.
Earlier on Sunday, Supreme Court lawyer Advocate Yunus Ali Akond filed the petition seeking its directives on the authorities concerned to open the Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) classes within 24 hours.
In the petition he sought the court’s directives also to take step in stopping BUET unrest and strike.
As per the petition, BUET authorities closed the institution for 44 days from July 11 in the name of summer vacation which affected the students’ study and examinations procedure.
He also sought court directive to the BUET authorities to start the admission process for the fresh students.
