DHAKA: Opposition BNP postponed its protest rally scheduled to be held on Monday afternoon.
Party’s acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir made the announcement in an emergency press conference at party’s central office in city’s Naya Paltan area Monday.
Mirza Fakhrul alleged, “The Awami League government has stopped the opposition’s rally technically. Police has taken away the mikes and trucks of the rally.”
He also alleged that police held some 15 BNP leaders and activists from party office area.
“Law enforcers took position around party office and harassing and obstructing our activists from attending the rally,” he added.
Fakhrul also said, “BNP leaders and activists will stage rally-procession in every Thana and we are taking preparation for Tuesday’s hartal.”
The press conference was attended, among others, by BNP Standing Committee member Gayeshwar Chandra Roy, city BNP convener Sadek Hossain Khoka, joint secretary general Amanulah Aman and BNP chief whip Jainul Abdin Farroque.
