1.22 lakh loan defaulters in country, Muhith tells JS

DHAKA: Finance Minister AMA Muhith Sunday categorically said there are some 122,437 loan defaulters in the country and some 32,440 cases were filed in this regard.

The finance minister came up with the disclosure in response to a question from lawmaker during question-hour of the parliament.

Replying to BNP member Rehana Akhter, he said, “Around 122,437 loan defaulters were recorded in 47 banks of the country till March 31.

Of the loan defaulters, there are some 29,203 are in BRAC Bank, he told the House.

The ruling Awami League lawmaker said, “Rajshahi Krishi Bank is in the second position with a total of 20,005 loan defaulters and the lowest is City Bank with only three defaulters.”
