NEW YORK: United States Department of Homeland Security identified Awami League (AL), Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and Jatiya Party (JP), the political parties, which assist terrorists.

So, the supporters of the three political parties, who took political shelter in America, have not got green card yet due to their alleged involvement in terrorist activities.

The decision on application of green card has been kept pending on security ground. Over 5,000 emigrants are facing the problem due to the ‘Patriot Act’ formulated on September 11 in 2001 following the terrorist attack.

Following the ‘Patriot Act’, ‘Real ID Act’ was formulated in 2005. The terrorist organizations of the world are divided into three stages in the list of Homeland Security as per the ‘Real ID Act’.

US State Department has made the list. The first and second stage terrorist organizations can be seen on the State Department website. But, general people can not see the third stage organizations.

Federal officers, who are working on international terrorism, only know the matter.

US State Department, Department of Homeland Security, representatives of immigration lawyers and top officials who are conducting research on international terrorism discussed about the list of thirds stage terrorist associations at a meeting on March 20.

The meeting raised question why Awami League, BNP and other political parties should not be removed from the list.

Sources said US State Department has a list as per the section 212 (A) (3) of ‘Immigration and Nationality Law’ of Homeland Security. The people or organizations of the list have not permission to enter the United States.

The issue was also highlighted in ‘Weekly Thikana, published from New York, titled ‘hundreds of Bangladeshis not getting green card’ on April 4.

It raised question in the community how Awami League’s name has been listed as associate organization of terrorists.
