DHAKA: Ten students of Department of Mass Communication and Journalism of Dhaka University (DU) received Dr Sitara Parvin Award Saturday for their excellent performances in BSS (honours) examinations 2011.
DU vice chancellor AAMS Arefin Siddique distributed prizes (cheque) among the awardees at RC Mojumder auditorium.
The awardees are Rezaul Karim, Mahbubul Haque Bhuiyan, Tahmina Haque, Arifa Alam, Sara Monami Hossain, Sabina Yasmin, Pranab Bhowmik, Forkan Ahsan and Tarekuzzaman Shimul.
Paying tribute to the memory of Sitara Parvin, Arefin Siddique said, “She was brilliant, sincere and ideal teacher and the ideology of Professor Sitara Parvin should be followed.”
With chairman of the department Professor Akhter Sultana in the chair, the programme was addressed, among others, by novelist Selina Hossain Professor Dr Ahaduzzaman Mohammad Ali amd assistant professor Shawnti Hyder.
Sitara Parvin, daughter of former President Justice Sahabuddin Ahmed and wife of Prof Ahaduzzaman, was killed in a road crash in the USA on June 23, 2005.
“Professor Sitara Parvin Trust Fund” was founded in memory of Dr Sitara Parvin in 2006. From then the Fund is giving awards to the students of Mass Communication and Journalism for their excellent performance.
