Govt against coaching business

DHAKA: Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid categorically said the government has finalized the policy to stop coaching business keeping the provision of not teaching students of own school privately.

The education minister also said the order would be issued soon to implement the policy.

The minister came up with the disclosure while talking to journalists after a meeting with educators of the country at his office in the city Thursday.

He said, “A teacher can teach privately maximum ten students of other schools and they can take 12 extra classes for the students lagging behind.”

The ruling Awami League lawmaker told the journalists that for extra classes a teacher would be paid Tk 300 in metropolitan area, Tk 200 in district level and Tk 150 in upazila level for per class.

He added: “The teacher cannot pressurize any student in this regard.”

The minister also said, “Some 10 percent for utilities and 10 percent for staffers will be cut from the money earned from extra classes.”

“Guardians will have to be conscious for stopping the coaching business to supplement the government’s initiatives in this regard,” the newsmen were told.

He also said, “The coaching business will not come to an end until the guardians stop running after those teachers.”

Nahid forewarned that punitive actions would be taken if the policy is violated.
