DHAKA: Industries Minister Dilip Barua Thursday said the installation work of central effluent treatment plant (CETP) at Savar leather industrial estate would be completed by June, 2013.
He came up with the announcement while visiting the construction work of Savar leather industrial estate.
The minister informed that the incumbent government is working to make the leather industrial park as green tannery industrial area.
Earlier, the minister held a meeting with stakeholders for relocation of tanneries from city’s Hazaribagh to Savar.
While addressing the meeting, Dilip said, “Bangladeshi leather goods will not have access to developed countries, including those in the European Union, if the government fails to set up the CETP by 2014.”
He urged the tannery owners to shift their tanneries to Savar leather industrial area as soon as possible.
The Leather Industry City will be built on a 200-acre land at Tetuljhara in Savar with 195 industrial units, which will directly and indirectly create jobs for nearly five lakh people.
