DHAKA: A student of National Polytechnic Institute in the city committed suicide on Saturday for not having laptop from his father.
The deceased was identified as Rakibul Hasan, 19, son of Singapore expatriate Abu Syed Sarkar.
He was a first semester student of Electric Department of the institute located in the city’s Firmgate area.
Rakib hailed from Chapail village of Savar Thana in the district.
He committed suicide at the institute hostel on Saturday afternoon.
Later, on information, Tejgaon Thana police recovered his body with the presence of hostel super Foyez Uddin Ahmed.
Being informed, Rakib mother’s Ayesha Begum rushed to the spot.
“Rikib might be committed suicide for laptop as his father refused to give him laptop which he demanded for a several days,” says Ayesha Begum.
Tejgaon Thana Officer-in-Charge Omar Faruk told banglanews: An unnatural death was filed with the thana in this connection.
