DHAKA: Jatiya Party Chairman HM Ershad said the overall condition of the party is not strong enough to assume power in the next election by competing alone.
The former president came up with the observation at party’s joint meeting at Diploma Engineers’ Institute in the city on Saturday.
The central leaders along with upazila and district leaders are attending the meeting.
“The meeting has been called to take opinion from the party leaders whether Jatiya Party will take part in the next election alone or not,” Ershad said.
However, he said that Jatiya Party would participate in the national polls even if not a single party takes part. The election should be held in due time for the sake of democracy, he added.
“I will go to grass-root level to strengthen the party after the Eid-ul-Fitr Ershad,” Ershad informed the party men.
The JP Secretary General ABM Ruhul Amin Hawlader, presidium member Roushan Ershad, Golam Habib Dulal, Professor Delwar Hossain Khan, Brig Gen (retd) Kazi MA Hannan, SM Alam are, among others, attending the day-long programme.
The central joint secretary Advocate Rezaul Karim Bhuiyan conducted the meeting.
