DHAKA: Dhaka University Day will be observed Sunday with the theme of ‘higher education in women empowerment’ participation of current and former students of the university.
The university authority has taken elaborate programmes marking the day.
Rallies will be brought out from the residential halls of the university at 9:00am, national flag, DU flag and flags of different halls will be hoisted at 9.15am, sweets will be distributed and a magnum-size cake would be cut marking the occasion.
Later, teachers and students in a procession will move to Teacher-Student Centre (TSC) to attend inaugural dance at 10:00am, discussion and reminiscing programme at 10.05am. Professor Emeritus Anisuzzman will present a paper on ‘Higher Education in `Women Empowerment’ at the discussion.
The university passed its significant 91 years amid historical movements in the interests of the whole nation and world peace.

Key buildings on the campus were decorated with multi-colored stuffs and illuminated with vivid lights.
Vice-chancellor Professor AAMS Arefin Siddique will attend the discussion as the chief guest, while Pro-Vice Chancellors Professor Nasreen Ahmed (academic) and Professor Shahid Akther Hossain (administration) will be present as the special guests.

In addition the university started its journey on the day in 1921 and generated numerous learned person including philosophers, educators, politicians, pundits, researchers, scientists.
Treasurer of the university Professor M Kamal Uddin will preside over the discussion and Registrar Syed Rezaur Rahman will conduct it.
Former vice-chancellors, pro-vice chancellors, emeritus professors, teachers and representatives of staff and employees will participate at the discussion.
Besides, discussions at different halls, debate competition at TSC, friendly football and cricket matches, cultural functions and drama will be held commemorating the day.
Biomedical Physics and Technology Department will organize exhibition of research and invention at 1pm.
Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology Department of the university will also organize different programmes at Science Complex Bhaban, which including ‘Bio-Technology Open Day’ participated by students of different schools and colleges and conducted by the students of the department to impart the new generation about different things of bio-technology.
