Waterway strike from Sunday

CHITTAGONG: Vessel Workers Federation called non-stop strike in the waterway from Sunday to press home their 16-point demands, including providing appointment of fishing workers in deep sea.

Spokesperson of the federation Nurul Absar confirmed this to through a press release.

The news release reads no initiative was taken to resolve labour disputes after the government accepted the demands of vessel owners. So, the vessel workers compelled to call the strike.

Their demands include providing the dues as per the rules declared in 2007 and forming new salary structure for the fishing-trawler workers.

Different workers’ organizations including Lighterage Workers’ Union expressed solidarity with the strike.
