DHAKA: Foreign Minister Dipu Moni Tuesday categorically said the government does not any plan to give shelter to the refugees of Myanmar.
The foreign minister came up with the disclosure while talking to journalists at her secretariat office in the city.
She said, “We have no plan to provide shelter them and the United Nations (UN) has not contacted with us in this regard.”
The security measures have been tightened in the frontier and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel are kept on alert, she said.
Currently Myanmar declared a state of emergency in its western Rakhine state amid fears of further unrest following an eruption of deadly sectarian violence.
State media that saw hundreds of Buddhist villagers’ homes set ablaze and left seven dead in rioting on Friday and Saturday in the state which borders Bangladesh.
It also imposed curfew in four towns and cities following a spate of clashes in Rakhine between Buddhists and Muslims.
