DHAKA: Posters and promotional materials of national award-winning filmmaker Syed Ohiduzzaman Diamond’s latest film ‘Antardhan’ will be released on the bank of river Padma in Pakshi on June 9.

Eminent novelist Hasan Azizul Haque will release the materials as chief guest under the Hardinge Bridge in Pakshi at 5:00pm on the day.

‘Antardhan’ (Disappearance) is based on the lifestyle of the people by the once mighty river Padma. It presents the story of a fisherman family, which was maintained by the resources from the river.

The film shows that with the passes of time the rivers shrinks and like many other fishermen Moyej becomes unemployed.

‘I have decided to start ‘Antardhan’s promotional on the bank of Padma because the film presents the people by the once mighty river, which is now about to die,’ Syed Ohiduzzaman Diamond told banglanews24.com.

The director, who received the National Film Awards as the ‘Best Director’ and ‘Best Scriptwriter’ for his second film ‘Gangajatra’ in 2009, thinks that the ‘Antardhan’ presents the gradual death of the river Padma and its aftermath with the story of Moyej.

‘It (Antardhan) is a reflection on some past incidents. It raises a question to the people concerning a drop of water,’ he added.

Diamond has so far made 40 television dramas and telefilms and three full length feature films.

His video works uphold the lives of minor ethnic and professional groups, including, Santal, Oraon, Dom, Chamar, weavers, blacksmiths, fishermen, bede and sex-workers.

His debut film ‘Nacholer Rani’ was based on the historic Santal revolution led by Ila Mitra in Nachol.

‘I hope my latest film would be able to draw the attention of the audience and would raise questions about water crisis which is now a global issue,’ Diamond expressed his hope regarding ‘Antardhan’.

The film is expected to be released in July.
