DHAKA : Speaker Abdul Hamid Saturday said the justices are also nominated by the people of the country.
The senior parliamentarian came up with the observation while addressing a programme at the parliament organized by ‘Kishoreganj Journalists Forum-Dhaka’ in the evening.
He said, “The government drafts the list of recruit able justices. Afterward the President recruits them along with chief justice.”
“President is not the brother-in-law as he has been chosen by the parliament. That means justices are elected by the nation ultimately. Thus, they should keep in mind that they are preferred by the people,” he said.
The guardian the House said, “I said that public could protest if the speaker along with the parliamentarians repeatedly passes any act against the people’s interest.”
The Speaker added: “Similarly people could protest against the justices if they do any injustice in the name of justice. Similar formula is applicable for the government. Unique principle is relevant for the whole world.”
He also said these three organs of the country are not enemies to each other and all departments need to cooperate with each other to run the country.
He said, “I was termed as ‘the traitor of the country’ but I have nothing to do in this regard. I have served jail for multiple terms. So, I took it easy.”
He also said the speaker post is neutral as it concerned to both the ruling party and the opposition. “The opposition politically claims, I am not neutral but if they utter from the heart, they will admit me as neutral,” he claimed.
Drawing attention to Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, he said, “The PM should consider something special for Kishoreganj as that AL have secured five JS seats in every general elections during all elections, including JP-BNP regime.”
He also said, “I never fear to say the fair tale. Don’t do flattery politics. Changing parties is not my policy. I say what I think better to say. If I feel any discomfort with the party I better retire.”
Among others, Jatiya Party lawmaker Mujibul Haq Chunnu, AL leader Afzal Hossain, Justice M Jahangir Hossain also spoke.
