DHAKA: After a long drama, the government has finally removed Pro-VC of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) Professor Habibur Rahman from his post.
The Education Ministry issued a gazette notification to this effect Sunday.
President M Zillur Rahman, also the chancellor of the university, relieved him from his responsibility amid long protest.
The protesting students and teachers of the university welcomed the government move.
Earlier, Education Minister Nurul Islam Nahid assured the teachers of withdrawing the Pro-VC and the two cases filed against faculty members and students of the university.
On April 7, BUET teachers launched movements, agitation, including work abstention, bringing 16 allegations against the VC and Pro-VC. Students and university officials joined the agitation in mid-July.
