DHAKA: The Anti-corruption Commission (ACC) is set to submit the charge sheet against former BNP state minister for energy AKM Mosharraf Hossain for allegedly accepting `gift` and bribe from the Niko Resources Limited.
Confirming the matter, ACC source said ACC will submit the charge sheet against Mosharraf Hossain before the court Tuesday.
ACC assistant director SM Shahidur Rahman earlier placed the final prove report to the commission;
Meanwhile, he sought commission’s approval for submitting charge sheet in the case, as he found Mosharraf’s involvement with this graft.
Earlier on February 12, ACC filed the corruption case against Mosharraf under sections 161, 409, 511 and 109 of the penal code and 5 (2) of Corruption Prevention Act-1947 with Shahbagh thana.
In the case statement it has been alleged that Mosharraf took a Land Cruiser Jeep worth about Tk 9.59 million as a gift and 5,000 Canadian dollars as bribe for his Canada and US tours from Niko in 2005.
It has also been alleged that he in a bid to strike a deal with the company to purchase gas, extracted from the Feni Gas Field, agreed at exaggerated price over the prevailing price.
Besides, Mosharraf caused a loss of over Tk 23,000 to the state for registration of the jeep.
During the inquiry, the ACC found that the authorities of Niko had earlier confessed to a Canadian court that they were compelled to give a gift and bribe Mosharraf to sign the deal.
