DHAKA: Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni is set to visit Kolkata Sunday to receive an award, but she is not scheduled to meet with Paschimbanga Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during her visit.
Several sources of the foreign ministry and Bangladesh High Commission in Kolkata confirmed this to banglanews.
A flight of Bangladesh Biman carrying Dipu Moni will take off for Kolkata at 11:00am Sunday.
The medal committee is going to award Dipu Moni the ‘Mother Teresa Medal’ for her outstanding contribution in establishing peace and social security.
The medal giving ceremony will be held at 8:00pm in Hindustan Hotel in Kolkata.
The minister is expected to return home by a Get Airways flight at 8:40am Tuesday.
When asked why Dipu Moni would not meet Mamata, a foreign ministry officer told banglanews, “The minister is going Kolkata to receive a medal and she will return after the function. It’s the schedule.”
A competent source said Bangladesh government’s relation with Mamata Banerjee has deteriorated within a short time.
As per the foreign ministry sources, Dipu Moni will not meet with Mamata on recommendation of the government’s higher level.
