DHAKA: The court boycott demo is underway on Tuesday morning enforced by the pro-BNP lawyer of the country protesting the court’s order that sent BNP joint-secretary general Barrister Mahbub Uddin Khokon to jail.
Besides, the agitating lawyers are showing black flags and staging a protest rally at Judge Court premises in old Dhaka.
Dhaka Bar unit president of Jatiyatabadi Lawyers Association Advocate Sanaullah Mia lead the demonstrations that started at about 10am.
On Monday, Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum President Barrister Rafiqul Islam Mia announced the demonstration to boycott courts across the country on Tuesday while staging demonstration at the CMM court premises.
Meanwhile, the pro-BNP lawyers brought out a protest procession and chanted different anti-government slogans during the agitation.
Earlier in the day, the court sent Khokon to jail rejecting his bail plea in connection with a case filed for vandalizing vehicles during recent hartals.
On May 9, he secured temporary bail till May 20 in connection with a case filed for vandalizing vehicles during recent hartals.
On May 3, the High Court gave split orders over Khokon’s bail plea on charge of vandalizing vehicles.
Senior Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haque gave an order of one week bail for Khokon while Junior Justice of the same bench M Mojibur Rahman Mia rejected the plea.
The case was sent to Chief Justice Mozammel Hossain who on the same day formed a single third bench to solve the matter as they passed split orders.
Concurring the order of division bench senior Justice Muhammad Anwarul Haque, Justice Khandaker Musa Khaled passed the bail order.
Dhaka Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Erfan Ullah passed the orders after hearing. All the accused were not produced before the court.
On April 30, BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir and others were sued for their alleged involvement in cocktail explosion at secretariat, vehicle vandalism and arson in PM office area during hartal.
Police filed two cases with Tejgaon and Shahbagh Thanas. Fakhrul was made accused in the both cases.
