DHAKA: Bangladesh Bank (BB) has finalized the process to form a special squad to prevent unethical practices, irregularities and corruption in the country’s commercial banks.
A competent source of the central bank said the 50-member squad, comprising efficient and experienced officials of the bank, will visit and look into irregularities and corruption of any branch of any commercial bank without any prior notice.
Sources also said the authorities concerned will take action according to the recommendation made by the squad.
A senior BB officer said the members of the squad would be trained up abroad.
The commercial banks are trending to risk banking for larger profit for which they are adopting irregularities and corruptions.
BB Deputy Governor SK Sur Chowdhury told banglanews: “The special squad will visit some eight thousand branches as a part of internal supervision plan of BB.”
He also added: “An advisor will be appointed in this regard under Central Bank Strengthening Project (CBSP).”
