DHAKA : Biman Bangladesh Airlines faces severe backlog of flights on international routes for the last couple of weeks as three wide-body aircrafts of DC-10 were grounded due to technical glitches.
Currently, Biman Bangladesh Airlines has three DC-10 aircrafts. Of those, one was grounded for last four months while another one for some couple of days. The last aircraft was grounded on Thursday due to technical glitches, said Biman source.
According to source, some five engines of DC-10 aircrafts were sent to Germany for overhauling. Recently, the overhauling work of two engines has already been completed. But, Biman can not take the delivery due to financial crisis.
Wishing anonymity, a pilot of Biman said, “Biman should not operate fights with the fleet of DC-10s as the machine parts of these aircrafts are not being made now. No airlines of the world now use the aircrafts.”
“It is better to hire Boeing aircrafts instead of repairing DC-10s”, he added.
