DHAKA: The 83rd birthday of Bangamata Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib, wife of father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, will be observed on Wednesday.
On August 8 in 1930, Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib was born to Sheikh Zahurul Huq and Hosne Ara Begum at remote Tungipara village in Gopalganj district.
The ruling Awami League and its associate bodies and other socio-cultural organisations have chalked out elaborate programme to mark the day.
Acting general secretary of Awami League Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif urged people from all walks of life, leaders and workers of the party and its associate bodies, and likeminded organisations to observe the day with due respect.
Marking the day, people of Awami League and its associate bodies will lay wreaths at Banani grave of Begum Fazilatunnessa Mujib at 10:00am.
Mahila Awami League, women`s front of Awami League, will organise a discussion meeting followed by a milad and doa mahfil at party central office at Bangabandhu Avenue after Johr prayers.
Bangladesh Chhatra League will organise a discussion meeting at Teacher Student Centre (TSC) of Dhaka University at 11:00am.
Awami Swechchasebak League will organise a discussion on the premises of Bangabandhu Memorial Museum at Dhanmondi at 11:00am to pay homage to Begum Mujib.
In addition, Bangamata Parishad will organise a discussion meeting at city’s Hotel Ruposhi Bangla at 12:00 noon marking Begum Mujib’s birthday.
Along with Bangabandhu, Begum Mujib and most of her family members were massacred by unruly high ambitious army officers on August 15 in 1975.
