CHITTAGONG: A Chittagong Court Wednesday granted bail to BNP city unit General Secretary Dr Shahadat Hossain in a case for torching vehicle in Nasiman Bhaban area of the port city.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Chief Magistrate Abdur Rahman passed the order after hearing the bail plea filed by accused’s lawyer Advocate Kamrul Islam.
Earlier in the morning, Dr Shahdat surrendered before the court and sought bail.
Advocate Kamrul Islam said that his client got bail in the case filed under speedy trial act.
Earlier on May 23, police submitted charge sheet accusing 53 leader and activists of BNP and Jamaat for assaulting law enforcers during May 13’s clash between police and BNP-led 18-party activists in Nasiman Bhaban area of the port city.
Kotwali Thana SI Shah Alam and ASI Rafique filed two cases under speedy trial tribunal act accusing 53 leaders including city Jamaat Ameer ANM Shamsul Islam MP, city BNP general secretary Dr. Shahdat Hossain.
On May 13, at least 150 people, including BNP leader Abdullah Al Noman, cops and journalists, were injured in a clash between police and BNP-led 18-party activists in Nasiman Bhaban area of the port city.
Police picked up 29 opposition activists during the hour-long clash.
Later on May 14, four cases were filed accusing some 1700 opposition men for assaulting law enforcers during clash between police and BNP-led 18-party activists.
