DHAKA: A total of 201 nomination papers have been sold for bifurcated Dhaka City Corporation (DCC) polls.
The nomination papers of DCC south were sold from Dhaka Metropolitan Theatre at Gulistan while nomination papers of DCC north at Dhaka District Election office at Agargaon Wednesday.
Sayeed Khokon, son of former mayor late Mohammad Hanif, collected nomination paper for competing mayoral race of DCC (South) polls while SA Khalek and Chowdhury Erad Ahmed collected nomination papers for mayoral race of DCC (North).
After collecting the nomination paper, Khokon said, “I am pleased for collecting the nomination paper for competing in much expected bifurcated Dhaka City Corporation polls.”
Regarding EC order for removal billboards and posters or any other publicity tools by Wednesday midnight, he said, “I myself started to remove posters and asked my supporters to do it. All the posters will be removed.”
DCC (North) mayor candidate Mahmudur Rahman Manna is likely to collect his nomination paper at 12pm Thursday. Another mayor candidate Shirin Akhter would also collect nomination paper at 10:30am on the same day.
Mayor candidate of DCC (North) Mofazzal Hossain Chowdhury Maya would collect nomination paper at 10am Sunday.
DCC (South) mayor candidate Haji Mohammad Selim has not confirmed his schedule for collecting nomination paper.
“There is time for collecting nomination paper. I will work taking time,” he told banglanews.
Besides, Jatiya Party backed mayor candidate of DCC (South) Kazi Firoz Rashid will collect nomination paper Friday while BNP backed mayor candidate Asaduzzaman Ripon will collect on Thursday noon.
DCC (North) Mihir Sarwar Morshed said, “Our preparation for the election is quite well. We have got the list of polling officers.”
Candidates of DCC south can purchase nomination papers worth Tk 28,000. Later, they will be provided the voter list of 56 wards in Compact Disk (CD).
On the other hand, candidates of DCC north can purchase nomination papers worth Tk 18,000 and will also be provided the voter list of 36 wards in CD.
The candidates for 31 reserved seats for woman councilors can collect nomination papers by Tk 1,500 and ward councilor candidates can purchase nomination papers with Tk 500.
The last date for submitting nomination papers is April 19 while final selection is on April 22 to 23 and the last date for withdrawing nominations is May 2.
The Election Commission (EC) on Monday formally fixed May 24 as the date for holding the elections of bifurcated Dhaka City Corporations.
