Teletalk being operated on officers’ wish

DHAKA: Teletalk, a state-run mobile-phone operator, is being operated on the wish of its higher officers as it has no service rule, organogram, salary scale and recruitment rules.

Sources said the government formed Teletalk dissolving Bangladesh Telephone and Telegraph Board (BTTB) in 2005.

But, the mobile-phone operator cannot formulate its service rule and organogram after seven years of its formation.

The officers and employees of the institution went on movement for several times demanding the organogram and service rule.

They observed sit-in demonstration in 2010 following the demand. They have recently started movement against the irregularities again.

It was found in banglanews investigation, the draft of service charge and organogram were placed before the Teletalk board of directors several times. But, the board has not approved the draft.

Teletalk does not have any rule on giving salary, allowances and other facilities. So, the salary of the officers and employees is being fixed according to the policy makers’ wish.

Over 150 persons have been appointed in the company in last two years.

Sometimes, three-year experience was wanted for the assistant manager post and sometimes people have been recruited in the post without any experience.

Earlier, employees were appointed through written and viva voce in the engineering department. But, suddenly the authority appointed 15 engineers for 3-G project of Teletalk only through viva voce.

The staffers of the institution started movement protesting the recruitment.

But, the authority is not paying any heed to the demands of the employees.

Teletalk managing director Mojibur Rahman was unavailable when contacted for the matter.
