CHITTAGONG: Eleven activists of Islami Chhatra Shibir, the student wing of Jamaat, were sued for attacking police, conducting vandalism and launching bomb attack during Wednesday’s Half-day hartal.
Police filed two cases against the 11 activists, who were picked up during the hartal hours, with Chandgaon and Panchlish thanas at about 12 pm Wednesday.
Confirming the matter, Panchlish thana ASI Yesmin Akhter said, “SI Abdul Aleem and ASI Md. Ruhul Amin filed those cases under section 4 of speedy trial act.”
Earlier on Wednesday Chittagong metropolitan Jamaat-e-Islami observed a half-day hartal from 6:00am to 12:00pm in protest against sending ANM Shamsul Isam to jail under Speedy Trial Act.
The pickets remained active from the morning to make the hartal successful. Police held some 21 picketers while conducting subversive acts.
Earlier, a Chittagong Court on Tuesday again sent the Metropolitan Jamaat Ameer lawmaker ANM Shamsul Islam to jail by rejecting his bail appeal in an arson case.
Chittagong Metropolitan Magistrate M Mahbubur Rahman passed the order in response to a petition filed by the state prosecutor.
Earlier on Monday, he was granted ad-interim bail till June 5.
On May 13, ANM Shamsul Islam was accused in a case under Speedy Trial Act following a clash between police and BNP-Jamaat activists.
