DHAKA: Divisional Commandant of Bangladesh Railway Enamul Huq knew nothing about the destination of the vehicle carrying them, including GM of Bangladesh Railway (East) Yusuf Ali Mridha and APS Faruk of Railway Minister Suranjit Sengupta, on April 9.
“I came out from my residence after receiving a phone call from the GM and got up into the car. At one stage, driver of the car entered the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) Headquarters,” he said.
The railway high official came up with the assertion in an exclusive interview with banglanews at Railway Bhaban when he came to here to give deposition over the April 9 incident, money scandal.
Enamul entered the room of railway director general at 11:42am.
During the interview, Enamul said, “I have been made a victim of the money scandal. I am innocent in this regard.”
Replying to a question about the destination the vehicle carrying them with the money, he said, “I did not know. GM asked me get up the vehicle. So, I did so.”
“Though I am innocent, I have been sacked,” he told banglanews.
Mentioning that newspapers published false report about my promotion, he said, “I have been working as assistant commandant for 18 years. But, newspapers published report that I got promotion rapidly.”
He also claimed he does not have any apartment and bank account. “If anybody can prove it, I will donate it,” he said.
Besides, he disclosed some information on condition of ‘of the record’.
On April 9, Omar Faruk and Yusuf Mridha were held with Tk 70 lakh by Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel in front of the main gate of BGB headquarters in the city, which is now the talk of the country.
On April 10, Suranjit Sengupta held a press conference in the city’s Railway Bhaban following the incident.
In response to a question about the money of Omar Faruk, he said that it was personal money of Omar Faruk.
Later, Suranjit finally suspended Faruk amid severe criticism one day after the money scandal.
On April 15, General Manager of Bangladesh Railway (East) Yusuf Ali Mridha and Divisional Commandant Enamul Huq were suspended over the incident of recent money scandal.
Besides, Railway Minister Suranjit Sengupta’s Assistant Personal Secretary (APS) Omar Faruq was sacked in the money scandal.
On April 16, Awami League Leader Suranjit Sengupta resigned as the Railway minister following the recent money scandal.
