DHAKA: Speaker Abdul Hamid Sunday vacated the constituency of ruling Awami League lawmaker Tanjim Ahmad Sohel Taj after accepting his resignation from the parliament.
The Speaker told the House that he accepted the resignation of terming his submission of resignation letter seemed as per the rule.
Abdul Hamid said, “I have accepted the resignation letter as it was submitted to me as per the rule.”
Sohel Taj, who was elected as Member of Parliament in last general elections from Gazipur-4 constituency, in person submitted his resignation letter to the Speaker at his office at 6:30 pm on Saturday.
Following his acceptance of the resignation, the Speaker said the seat of Sohel Taj has become vacant from July 7.
On May 9, the Speaker declined to accept the resignation, saying Sohel did not follow constitutional provisions and rules of procedure of the House in submitting the resignation letter.
Earlier, Sohel Taj, son of Tajuddin Ahmad, the first prime minister of the country, stepped down as state minister for home affairs.
