DHAKA: On the eve of their departure to Fort William, Kolkata to participate in the Victory Day celebrations in India, the High Commission (HC) of India held a reception in honour of
Muktijoddhas and officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces on Wednesday who are travelling to Kolkata.
The function was presided over by Captain (retd) Tajul Islam, Minister for Liberation War Affairs, Government of the People’s Republic of Bangladesh.
On this occasion, the Minister handed over Muktijoddhas Scholarships to 20 children to commence the process of granting scholarships to 1595 students during this year.
These scholarships were instituted by the Government of India in 2006-2007 for direct descendants of Muktijoddhas for pursuing undergraduate and higher secondary studies in Bangladesh.
Since the initiation of the Scheme, over 6000 students have already been conferred such scholarships
The function was attended, among others, by Pankaj Saran, High Commissioner of India to Bangladesh, the Chairmen of the Muktijoddha Shangshad, Major General (retd) Helal Morshed Khan, BB, psc, Vice Chairmen and General Secretary of the Muktijoddha Sangshad..
