Moudud criticizes civil society

DHAKA: Opposition BNP standing committee member Barrister Moudud Ahmed Thursday blasted the civil society for their inactive role over attacks, false cases and tortures the opposition leaders, activists are now facing.

The BNP leader uttered the outrage while addressing a reception programmes to the noted personalities on the occasion of Nazrul’s 113th birth anniversary.

Jatiyatabadi Samajik Sangskritik Sangstha (JASAS) organized the function held at the National Press Club on Thursday evening.

Moudud asked the followers of islamic and nationalist values to protest against the torture by the government on the opposition men being imbued with the sprit of Nazrul’s ‘Bidrohi verses’.

Criticizing the government, the veteran BNP leader said, “You won’t be able to cling to power in this way. BNP leaders are not getting bail whereas murderers, robbers and terrorists are getting bail.

He called upon the government to discuss with the opposition to resolve the crisis. Otherwise, the country will plunge into a grave crisis.

In the programme six Nazrul researchers, artistes and litterateurs were awarded with crests and certificates for their outstanding contributions.

With JASAS convener Abul Hashem Rana in the chair, film actress Keya, Nazrul researcher poet Abdul High Shikder and artiste Salauddin attended the programme, among others.
