DHAKA: Finance minister Abul Maal Abdul Muhith said the government is set to export steamed rice in a bid to ensure fair price for the marginal farmers.
He said, “The decision will be finalized in the next meeting of food monitoring committee.”
The Minister came up with the disclosure emerging from a meeting on food storage situation, import-export and existing situation of poultry industry on Sunday.
“We are self dependant in food. The price of rice is lower in our market. So the government will export rice considering the situation,” said Muhith.
Agriculture Minister Matia Chowdhury and Food Minister Dr. Abdur Razzak also attended the meeting.
Earlier, the food monitoring committee took decision to export aromatic rice in its previous meeting.
