DHAKA : The Coal Policy Review Committee (CPRC) failed to submit the report within the stipulated time leaving the fortune of coal sector of the country in dilemma.
CPRC was given four months time till February 12 to submit the report, but on condition of anonymity, members of CPRC told banglanews that it would take about more two months.
Petrobangla chairman Dr Hossain Mansur told banglanews, “I knew nothing about CPRC.”
The review committee was asked to submit a comparable report on water level, Geology and Geophysics of the Boropukuria and Fulbari coal mine area and the probable loss of the local people.
Development of coalmine is possible in Bangladesh like many other countries through underground as well as open pit mining.
But development of minefield is more complicated in the country due to the positions of coal reserves, special impact of geological formation and socio-economic as well as environmental reasons.
