SYLHET: At least 10 people were injured in a clash between two rival groups of Juba League over establishing supremacy in Osmaninagar area of the district on Monday night.
Amongst the injured, two were identified as Harun Mia, 15, a passerby and Sanaur Ali, 35, a Juba League activist.
Witnesses said the two Juba league factions took position in Goalabazar area on Dhaka-Sylhet highway. At one stage, Sohel group started their motorcade showdown around 9pm and supporters of Ambia group threw brickbats at them that triggered a clash between the rivals.
Besides, the supporters of two groups vandalized some vehicles, business institutions and fired seven rounds of bullets during the clash that disrupted vehicle movement in the area for one and a half hour.
Vehicular movement become normal in the area after additional riot police rushed to the spot. Besides, riot police are still on duty in the area to avoid any untoward situation, Osmaninagar Thana OC Al Amin said.
Osmaninagar Thana police said Jabed Ahmed Ambia had a longtime dispute with Altafur Rahman Sohel over establishing supremacy in the area. Tension was prevailing for some days following a clash between supporters of two groups.
