BHOLA: Angry mob gouged out eyes of eight robbers in Monpura and Char Fashion upazilas of the district Wednesday.
In-Charge of Dhal Char Police Outpost under Char Fashion Gulzer Ahmed told banglanews that locals caught four robbers in Bhasan Char area of the upazila around 12:00 noon while they were trying to flee through the area.
He added: “Later, they gave the robbers a good beating and gouged out their eyes.”
But, the identity of the robbers could not be known immediately.
On information, police rushed in and rescued them from the locals.
Police said the condition of them is critical.
Besides, Officer-in-Charge of Monpura Thana Mizanur Rahman told banglanews that locals held four robbers around 9:00am in Char Nizam area under the upazila while taking preparation of conducting robbery.
He said, “Later, they beat the robbers black and blue and gouged out their eyes.”
The robbers are Kabir, 28, Russel, 27, Shajahan, 30, and Belal, 31. They hailed from Hatia upazila of Noakhali district.
They hailed from different areas of Hatia upazila of Noakhali, Laxmipur district.
Police said they are active members of local Kalam and Nizam groups.
On Tuesday, police conducted a drive while some 32 robbers were taking preparation of conducting robbery. Locals caught seven people, while they were fleeing from the scene, Gulzer added.
They gave the robbers a good beating, leaving five dead on the spot. Later, police held two robbers.
Local fishermen held another robber along with arms in Puber Char of Dhal Char area under Char Fashion upazila of the district.
They beat him up and handed him over to police, Mizanur added.
