DHAKA: The International Crime Tribunal (ICT)-2 Thursday rejected the review plea of BNP lawmaker Abdul Alim regarding indictment order against him for wartime crimes against humanity during liberation war in 1971.

A three-member ICT-2 team led by Falze Kabir passed the order after hearing.

In the review plea, the defense side said prosecution mentioned Abdul Alim ‘commander of Mahkuma Rajakar’ during the liberation war in formal charge brought against him. But, the tribunal indicted him as ‘commander of local Rajakar-Al Badr forces’.

In the order, the tribunal said it would be proved during submission of deposition.

On June 11, the International Crime Tribunal-2 framed charges against detained BNP lawmaker Abdul Alim on the basis of 17 charges.

The deposition process is scheduled to begin through reading out opening statement on July 3.

Later, Alim’s lawyers filed a review petition against the indictment.

On March 22, the tribunal fixed March 27 for giving order on whether the charges take into cognizance or not against Alim.

On March 27, ICT took into cognizance the formal charges of ‘crime against humanity’ against BNP leader also ex-minister Abdul Alim for his role during the 1971 Bangladesh Liberation War.

On March 27 in 2010, Abdul Alim was arrested from his Joypurhat home-district.
