NEW YORK : A three-day International Bangla Festival and Book Fair began in New York of the United States of America Friday.
Director General of Bangla Academy Shamsuzzaman Khan inaugurated the function at Susan Anthony School of Jamaica.
Addressing the function, he said, “The initiative of practicing Bengali language and literature seems to me that a new Bangladesh has been built up in abroad.”
A special reception was awarded to Richard Taylor, the foreign freedom fighter who took part in the liberation war of Bangladesh in 1971.
Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman, Dr Jyoti Prakash Dutta, Kabi Habibullah Siraji, Professor Syed Manzurul Islam, Abul Momen, Hasan Ferdous, Iqbal Hasan, Syed Iqbal, Dr Abdul Momen, Saifullah Mahmood Dulal, Nasimun Nahar Nini were among others present on the occasion.
