DHAKA: Bangladesh’s one of the major artists late Safiuddin Ahmed’s 90th birth anniversary was celebrated at Bengal Shilpalaya in Dhanmondi Saturday evening.
On this occasion, Bengal Foundation arranged a music soiree at the Shilpalaya with the performances of Farida Parvin, Iffat Ara Dewan, Luva Nahid Chowdhury and Aditi Mohsin.
At the soiree, Luva Nahid Chowdhury sang Kazi Nazrul Islam’s ‘Jaha kichhu momo’, Atul Prasad’s ‘Bandhu kshoniker dekha’ and Pranab Roy’s ‘Pradip jagiye roho’.
Aditi Mohsin sang Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Abar esechhe Asharh’, ‘Bajra manik diye gantha’, ‘Emon dine tare’ and ‘Ogo tumi panchadashi’.
Earlier in the morning, a group of people including teachers, students and artists placed wreath on the grave of the artist at Dhaka University on behalf of the university’s Fine Art Faculty, Bengal Foundation, Gallery Chitrak, Safiuddin Bengal Printmaking Studio and other organisations.
Among others, artists Qayyum Chowdhury, Mahmudul Haque, Abul Barq Alvi and Motlub Ali and Bengal Shilpalaya director Subir Chowdhury were present at the programme in the morning.
