DHAKA: Finance Minister AMA Muhith categorically said Asian Development Bank (ADB) and Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) have extended the time for disbursing the loan to construct the much-talked-about Padma Bridge project by one month.
The finance minister came up with the disclosure to the journalists at his secretariat office in the city Tuesday.
He said, “To make a solution in the mean time, ADB and JICA have extended the time for loan activation.”
The ruling Awami League lawmaker said no letter was issued to the World Bank for reconsidering the funding.
Allude to the deadline for the loan agreement with ADB and JICA is expiring on Tuesday.
The crisis situation occurred on June 30 when the World Bank canceled a $1.2 billion credit for a Padma Bridge project, saying it had “credible evidence” of a high-level corruption conspiracy among officials of Bangladesh government.
