2G license renewal by Aug: Muhith

DHAKA: The 2G license renewal process of four mobile-phone operators will be completed within August this year.

Finance Minister AMA Muhith made the disclosure after an inter-ministerial meeting held at the secretariat on Thursday.

In the meeting, BTRC, NBR and mobile-phone operators also took decision to withdraw all the ongoing cases, he said.

The timeframe of 2G licenses of four operators--GP Banglalink, Robi and Citycell--expired in November last.

Law Minister Barrister Shafique Ahmed, Post and Telecommunications Minister Raziuddin Ahmed Razu, State Minister for Science and ICT Yeafesh Osman and NBR Chairman Dr Nasiruddin Ahmed were among others present.

In addition, representatives from the BTRC, mobile-phone operators and NBR also attended the meeting.
