DHAKA: Bangladesh Telecommunication Regularity Commission (BTRC) has decided to provide Wi-Fi Internet service for the mobile-phone operators in a bid to make internet facility easier to people.
Sources said BTRC has prepared a draft of guideline in this regard, which would be finalized soon.
BTRC has to launch a guideline for introducing any service. It operates the specific service on the basis of the guideline.
An official, wishing anonymity, of the BTRC said, “The WI-Fi operators have to buy a form worth Tk 500 and give Tk 5,000 as processing fee.”
Chief communication officer of Grameenphone Kazi Monirul Kabir told banglanews that the Internet service would be easier for the mobile-phone users if the government the system.
The Wi-Fi is a popular technology that allows an electronic device to exchange data wirelessly over a computer network, including high-speed Internet connections.
The Wi-Fi Alliance defines Wi-Fi as any “wireless local area network (WLAN) products that are based on the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers` (IEEE) 802.11 standards”.
However, since most modern WLANs are based on these standards, the term “Wi-Fi” is used in general English as a synonym for “WLAN”.
