DHAKA: Home Minister Advocate Sahara Khatun Wednesday categorically said the fugitive killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman would be taken back and executed.

“The government is trying to bring back some six fugitive killers of Bangabandhu to the country and we will execute the verdict the court,” she said.

The home minister came up with the assertion while addressing a programme arranged on the occasion of National Mourning Day held at Monipur High School and College at Mirpur in the city.

Sahara Khatun said, “Awami League started the trial after canceling Indemnity Ordinance in 1996 which put bar to the trail in last 21 years. Later, the next government dallied to the trail, but in 2008 five of the killers were hanged.”

Terming the murders on August 15 in 1975 as heinous, the ruling Awami League lawmaker said, “The killers tried to kill Sheikh Hasina after killing her whole family.”

She also urged all to be united against subversive acts of BNP-Jamaat.

The people have forgotten about grenades-bombs and militants, and the government is sincere in curving militants and terrorism, she added.

The programme was addressed, among others, by Kamal Ahmed Majumder MP and Headmaster of the school and college Farhad Hossain.
