DHAKA: Ruling Awami League (AL) has chalked out a month-long programme marking the National Mourning Day on August 15, the day when Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman along with most of his family members was killed by a group of army officers in 1975.
The announcement was made at a joint party meeting at Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s Dhanmandi party office in the city on Friday.
Emerging from the meeting, AL joint general secretary Mahbub-ul-Alam Hanif confirmed journalists about the matter.
He said, “The programmes include, mourning processions, discussions, human chains, doa mahfil and special prayers, placing of wreaths at the graves of Bangabandhu and others killed on the day.”
Meanwhile, the party will also mourn 21 August grenade attack day and death anniversary of Ivy Rahman on August 24, source said.
Besides, the party men mourned the death of eminent writer Humayun Ahmed at the beginning of the meeting.
