DHAKA: Former Election Commissioner Brigadier General (retd) Sakhawat Hossain categorically said it is difficult to hold fair election under party government.
“I have witnessed from my long experience that how much difficulties are to face to hold the election under party government,” he said.
The former Army official came up with the observation while addressing a roundtable meeting organized by Shushaner Jonno Nagarik (Shujan) at the National Press Club.
Sakhawat said, “It is not possible to hold fair election if the judicial does not help.”
Former Dhaka University Vice-Chancellor Dr Emajuddin Ahamed, Gono Forum President Dr Kamal Hossain and Eminent lawyer Shahdin Malik also spoke at the roundtable.
Addressing the roundtable, Dr Emajuddin said, “Political leaders create the field of military rule. They do not believe anybody. So, there is no alternative to caretaker government.”
