CHITTAGONG: The pro-Awami League teachers’ ‘Yellow Panel’ won a landslide victory in the dean’s election of Chittagong University (CU) against BNP-Jamaat backed-teachers’ `White Panel` on Monday.
The ‘Yellow Panel’ candidates bagged the polls in six faculties out of seven losing one to `White Panel`.
The winning candidates are-Prof Dr Imran Hossain, Arts & Humanities faculty; Prof Dr Abu Taher, Business Administration Faculty; Prof Hossain Kabir, Social Science Faculty; Khan Towhid Osman, Biology Faculty and Prof Dr Shankar Lal Shaha, Engineering Faculty.
Earlier, Prof Dr Abdullah Al Faruk of `Yellow Panel` was declared elected for the Faculty of Law as the White Panel did not nominate any candidate to this faculty.
Dr Mohammad Abdul Karim won the victory in Science Faculty from the white panel.
The polling started at 10:00am and continued till 1:00pm at the Business Faculty auditorium.
CU acting registrar Prof Dr M Shafiul Alam acted as the election commissioner.
A total of 628 voters cast their votes in the election.
Earlier on July 30 and August 2, 88 teachers cast their votes in advance.
As per CU Act, 1973, the elected deans will discharge duties for two years.
CU Vice Chancellor Prof Md Anwarul Azim Arif and Pro-Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Alauddin greeted the winners to the polls.
