DHAKA: Journalism plays key role in upholding human rights and promoting good governance. Free flow of information and quality journalism contributes to leading a nation functioning in the transparent, accountable and responsive manner.
Robaet Ferdous, eminent media academic, human rights defender and TV personality said this at the closing ceremony of a three day foundation training on journalism organized for the novice journalists of Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) Region.
The training program was arranged by ‘Abahaman’ with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO) from July 29 to 31, 2012 where a total of 25 novice journalists from 17 upazilas of Rangamati, Khagrachari and Bandarban districts were trained un on fundamentals of journalism and human communication.
In the opening session of the training programme held on July 29, M H Nazrul Islam, Senior Program Officer of the Danish Embassy/Danida; Robaet Ferdous, Associate Professor, Department of Mass Communication and Journalism, University of Dhaka; Abhilash Tripura, National Coordinator, Capacity Building on Indigenous and Tribal Peoples Issues in Bangladesh(PRO169, International Labour Organization (ILO-Bangladesh; Lina Jasmine Lusai, Consultant, ILO-Bangladesh and Sheikh Shafiul Islam, eminent research and training specialist delivered speeches.
